Joseph Cohen almost punished after a family left a 5-year-old girl behind in his cab at Logan International Airport Sunday
Last Sunday Joseph Cohen, 39, picks up a family at the Logan International Airport, drove them home and helped them unload their luggage.
After a few minutes, the cab pool at the airport called Cohen to let him know that a child was left in his cab. Cohen was surprised by what he just heard and checked the backseat abruptly. He then saw the baby sleeping. Cohen then went back and returned the baby to the family. The family even gave him a $50 tip as a reward.
The next day, Cohen was asked to report to the Hackney Unit where he was informed by the police that he will receive a three day suspension for not thourougly checking his taxi. He appealed the suspension and was allowed to keep his license pending a hearing. On Tuesday, he visited the police station with an attorney and learned he would only get a warning.
According to a police spokeswoman, Elaine Driscoll, “We are very happy that the baby was safely returned to mom and dad. That said, it was an important opportunity to remind cab drivers why we have a rule that dictates they must check the back of their cab after every fare.”
