Rough Day at Thinking Tools
6 Aug
Sorry we haven’t posted anything new lately. We just really had a bizarre week so to speak. Last Monday, we suddenly observed an annoying red vertical line on our laptop’s monitor. I got anxious because the line didn’t disappear even after we’ve done the basic troubleshooting stuff we’ve learned from work (i.e. rebooting, etc). I suddenly had this gut feeling that there was something wrong with our LCD panel.

Val and I researched a bit about this problem and some forums did suggest about the LCD panel being busted. Though, I felt scared but I was confident knowing that we can still take advantage of our one-year service warranty at Thinking Tools (SM branch), which was where we bought the Asus F8sg laptop. Little did I know that Thinking Tools would have to ship our laptop to Manila which would take about an entire MONTH! I literally made a fuss at the store since the sales person told us differently when we purchased the laptop. It was December of last year when we bought the laptop at Thinking Tools in SM for the amount of P41, 900 or about $891. Of course, one of the characteristics I cannot control is being a “sigurista” or being particular about things to ensure that everything goes as planned. I’d like to think in advance since I’ve encountered lots of issues in the past that I want to make sure they won’t ever happen again. So I made sure to ask the sales person about the service warranty of the laptop and where to go in case there would be hardware problems or whatsoever. Casually, the sales person informed us to just bring the laptop at the store and they’ll get it fixed right there. So after hearing this statement Val and I felt reassured.

Our Asus F8sg laptop and its horrid vertical red line
About 8 months later, last Monday, there we were at Thinking Tools trying to argue with their personnel to give us a better option than shipping the laptop to Manila leaving us with nothing to work on just to get it fixed. To our disgust, we were just told there was no other way. What really upset us most was why in God’s name didn’t they specifically inform us that they would have to ship the laptop back to the manufacturer?! After all, I did ask! We wouldn’t have bought the laptop if we knew they didn’t have a service centre here in Cebu. Another annoying observation we had was their so-called sales people didn’t know a damn thing about what the problem was and didn’t show us any sympathy at all knowing that we would have to wait for a WHOLE MONTH to get our laptop fixed! They don’t even have a store manager or supervisor to complain to. When I asked where we can file a complaint we were told to contact their main office. Jeez! Talk about poor customer service experience!
Bottom line is, we sure as H*LL wouldn’t purchase anything ever from that store even if they place all their stuff on sale. Just a word of advice as well to shoppers when purchasing gadgets or devices, always remember to ask the store about their policies regarding warranties. You don’t want to experience what we’ve just experienced that day. At this moment we’re still stuck with the red vertical line on our laptop. I guess we’ll have to decide when we can have this fixed without having to wait an entire month without it.
