Iron Man 2 Review

Iron Man 2

After the many months and days I’ve waited, finally I got to see Iron Man 2 yesterday with my hubby. I was so excited to watch the movie that most of the day my thoughts were mainly focused on nothing else. Too bad my Vaughn couldn’t watch the movie with us yet because he’s barely two years old but anyway, I’m pretty sure he’d love to watch it someday.

What I like about Iron Man and Iron Man 2 is the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is playing the lead role as Tony Stark. Though, there were a lot of useless scenes in Iron Man 2 like Tony Stark’s elaborate scenes of self destruction but I still think that Robert Downey Jr. looks and acts great as Iron Man.

A couple of things that I miss in the film is Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pots since I’ve noticed in the sequel, she didn’t have a lot of dialogue and cheesy scenes with Tony Stark except perhaps the kissing part which was of course surprising. The kissing scene was unexpected since I thought Tony Stark just didn’t show that much attention to her in the movie and if he ever did then I thought it wasn’t convincing. I mean it’s weird that if you’re dying wouldn’t you want to spend your last day with the one person you love instead of goofing off and acting like a jerk in a tin suit. But in fairness to Tony Stark he did tell Pepper that he wanted to ditch his birthday party and instead travel to Venice with her. I just thought he didn’t really exert any real effort letting her know he was attracted to her.

There is of course the matter of Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard as Rhodey in Iron Man 2. Don Cheadle I think is a great actor, no doubt about it; however, his aura wasn’t just as humorous when Terrence Howard was playing the role. I do understand that Terrence Howard was reportedly replaced because of his lack of professionalism during filming so Don Cheadle may have been great substitute.

Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer was surprising too since I never expected he’ll be in Iron Man 2. I liked his role; however, despite how annoying he was in the movie. There were scenes that really made me laugh especially when he danced those quirky weird steps during the Hammer Expo. He’s well suited for the role but I still think that his being in the movie wasn’t really necessary. They could have lessened the number of appearances he had in the movie.

I liked Mickey Rourke as Whiplash; I mean he always seemed to fit the perfect description of a villain. The only thing that bothered me was the difficulty I had understanding what he was saying most of the time because of the heavy Russian accent in the movie. This I thought was really important for me since I wanted to be engrossed with all the conversation that was going on in the movie but without luck it was impossible with Mickey Rourke’s accent.

Another surprising cast was Scarlett Johansson’s role as the Black Widow. I liked how she fought during her fight scenes but that’s already expected in Iron Man movies. I felt uncomfortable; however, every time she appeared with Tony Stark because I didn’t really know what she was about to do next or what her role was really all about. In the end, I figured she was just there out of Nick Fury’s order to gauge if Stark deserved to be part of the Avengers.

I know I made some comments when we watched the movie but so far these are the ones I remember. Still, over all the movie was worth watching  and I’ll definitely look out for the Iron Man 3 if they’re pushing through with the movie.
